Our preservation work lies in the Arc of Appalachia region, a 90-mile crescent of land lying along the western Appalachian Front, bordered on the east by the great Scioto River, and on the south by the Ohio River. Our first preserve region -- The Highlands Nature Sanctuary -- was founded in 1995 along the Arc in the botanically-rich cave region of the Rocky Fork Gorge. The Highlands includes a preserve known as Cave Canyon -- our visitor gateway which is open to the public from spring through autumn. This beautiful preserve region, filled with springs, caves, rare plants and stunning rock cliffs, is already 2,000 acres in size --and growing every year. In addition to the Highlands, ten other preserve regions have been established along the crescent of the Arc, totaling over 3,000 acres of protected land. The Arc of Appalachia Preserve System has been the result of a miraculous grass-roots effort...and is still growing. We ask to join our efforts to buy back the trees, and join us on a variety of nature literacy courses. You can begin to help the forest with one simple step...link up.
